How are CHIP mutations detected?

Clonal hematopoiesis of undetermined potential (CHIP) is usually diagnosed by a blood test that analyzes genetic mutations in white blood cells.

This test can detect certain mutations associated with CHIP, even in the absence of symptoms. The German CHIP Registry works closely with the Munich Leukemia Laboratory (MLL), which has extensive expertise in hemato-oncological disorders. If you have been diagnosed with CHIP, additional tests may be recommended or you may be monitored to detect signs of blood cancer or cardiovascular disease.

This may include regular blood tests, imaging studies or other diagnostic procedures. It is important to know that not all people with CHIP need to develop serious health conditions and that the risk varies depending on the specific mutations and other factors.

The network around the German CHIP Registry can help you understand your individual risk and develop a plan for monitoring and managing your health.
